5000 Miles – Terra Nova

On the 23rd May Andrew Dickson began an unsupported cycle across Canada to raise funds for 3 good causes close to his heart – all making a difference for the treatment and care of young people. This includes FACE.

Andrew set off from Vancouver and is due to arrive in Halifax, Nova Scotia (5000 miles away) by the 23 August.

Andrew has provided us with brilliant pictures on his travels, great shots of  the amazing scenery and wonderful people he has met along the way.

We know Andrew loved Quebec City – in his own words ‘I can now say Old Quebec is without doubt my favourite city. Old Quebec itself has beautifully restored stone/brick buildings; lovely alleyways; the citadel on the hill giving wonderful views of the St Lawrence River with its bridges and ferries; streets that go up/down and not just on the flat; staircases and boardwalks; lots of green spaces and parks; the waterfront; and quality street artists. The list goes on. And there’s NO litter, despite the 100s of thousands of people.”

We have also learned that Andrew has made such good progress that he aims to cycle to St John’s in Newfoundland and extend this fantastic journey by 800 miles.

In his post of 8 August – Andrew confirmed he had hit the 5000 miles mark.

“Saturday afternoon, Sunday and Monday has been spent getting to Clarenville. The Trans Canada Highway has had far more challenging hill climbs these few days, especially this morning going through Terra Nova National Park. This is where a great granny gear is required. Also reached the 5000 miles point just before passing Gambo this morning.

A few truckers, bikers and car drivers have been giving a dunt on the horn and thumbs up, which is nice.”

Everyone at FACE wishes Andrew all the very best as cycles on towards Halifax and here are links on how you can support this incredible fundraising challenge.
