FACE were asked if they could help replace furniture in the waiting areas of the Oncology Outpatient Department (OPD) at the Western General Hospital.
The staff in the OPD know how important it is to make the area as welcoming as possible and were concerned about how tired the furniture looked. It is often the first place patients and relatives spend time in after a cancer diagnosis. It is the area where FACE hold our annual Christmas Fair and, with similar concerns, we were keen to help where we could.
Working with Jane Curran, senior charge nurse in the OPD, FACE provided funds to replace all the chairs and provide new tables. This was done in late November 2019. There is now a much fresher look to the entrance and waiting areas. As Jane said to Fiona Taylor of FACE, after the work had been completed – ‘wow, what a difference’, ‘a big thank you once again for your support’.
The staff in OPD have had people using the area comment on how nice it is to see new matching furniture and how comfortable it is.
